The Art of Belonging

A ring bound style publication.

Research suggests that between 70 and 80% of us will experience feelings of Imposter Syndrome at some point of our lives. Understanding what it is and how it can affect us, can help us overcome these imposter feelings.

This project set out to explore the feeling of belonging, by taking a creative approach of blending both factual information and personal touches.

The final outcome took shape as a ring bound publication, with information being layered on a curation of acetate, tracing paper and laser cut pages. The layered approach provides an interactive element, encouraging viewers to peel back each page- mirroring the process of uncovering and confronting imposter thoughts.

A closer look at the details
of The Art of Belonging:

After becoming confident with perfect binding in previous projects, I decided it was time to try something new. I chose ringbinding as I liked the flexibility of being able to move the pages, especially when using multiple binders at a time.
This publication uses a button fastening. The string can be tied in various different ways, allowing the viewer to add their own touch everytime they shut it.
